The sheer NUMBER of available tracks and stages still has me finding myself smiling like a goon every time I look for where to play next. They still haven't completely fixed the god awful, center-axis gyro with the turning "animation", and they seem almost unrealistically tail-happy, but after a few runs I've gotten noticeably more used to how they drive, and quite enjoyed the couple of Finnish stages I was able to finish relatively cleanly. So, it's actually a HUGE improvement from 7, that's for sure.Īlthough the handling is still pretty wonky on anything other than the WRC/WRC1+2 Classes (Don't even get me started on the handling of my beloved Escort MK2, and most RWD's for that matter) it is definitely better than anything previous. WRC 9 just finished DL'ing so at least there's that. But then you have to deal with the usual Codemasters bullshit, too. Especially like the "New England" Rally, which is actually just a bunch of different (but still real) roads from somewhere in the mountains of Washington State.Īnd I just want to race a goddamn i20/i30n, but in DR2 for christ's sake! In my opinion, it's the only modern Rally game with FUN handling physics, amazing lighting/graphics, and acceptable on-road feedback.

It's not like they couldn't just use the actual tracks and come up with some fake names for them, like they did anyway with DR2. But nah, let's just cut 2 or 3 full-length Rally stages for each country into 6 or 7 sprints, half of them just reverse-runs, and make it LOOK like there's a ton of available tracks! SO many missed opportunities that would be endless, crazy fun. Then their are the gorgeous landscapes and crazy layouts of Mexico, Rally Japan, Great Orme, Kenya/the Safari Rallies, etc. I would pay anything to be able to run the NEFR stages (I'm from Massachusetts so I'd love racing through the mountains and forests identical to my own). WRC needs to stop being so greedy and loosen their restrictions on official Track-use. Like the car spins on it's center axis or something, it just looks like an animation versus varying degrees of rotation on both axles.

And one of the biggest things I hate about the official WRC games is that god awful chase-cam movement (Even though I'm in Cockpit/Dash ~%75 of the time) and how in turns, the physics look totally "off". I definitely see wha tyou mean with handling. The non-existent tweakability of PP and advanced graphics settings was a huge turn off, as well.) and and yeah, I know the games are all pretty much the same, but from what I've heard, 9 is at least an improvement. I actually like the graphics/textures from WRC8-on (7 actually looked decent in playthroughs, but even when I can play DR2 with everything but Crowds and Track at Ultra, I couldn't get 7 to look even close. Yeah, I mean I still might just grab it off A.D just to try it out for a change in scenery with the different tracks and layouts.
